Project title Unearth the Forgotten

Project description This project invites one on a journey of revitalising and reclaiming the forgotten spaces within Porto’s historic city centre. The journey starts with an audacious intervention, where a complete metamorphosis of the area unfolds and a tower emerges, calling out to the onlooker. In the second chapter, the tower transforms, blending into the surrounding buildings. Chapters three and four envision the transformation of these abandoned spaces into a cinematic haven. The next chapter introduces a staircase that connects the outdoor cinema to a hidden garden. The final chapter, embodied by the garden, features a narrow path of birch trees.

Tutor citation Amalia’s careful work, hand drawn and modelled with precision, responds to the derelict and decaying urban grain of Porto. She carried out rigorous investigations and came to an understanding of the people who live here and the streets they inhabit. Colin O’Sullivan, Charlotte Harris

Studio/unit brief 余白と間: yohaku and ma (Unit 8)
Project title A City Crown for Hackney Wick

Project description The project seeks to create a ‘city crown’, a term coined by Bruno Taut to describe his conception of a singular community centre that had a transformational influence over the city and its inhabitants. This project adopts his utopian ambitions by creating a city crown in Hackney Wick, a rapidly changing part of east London where intense development has led to a paucity of public infrastructure which the project aims to address by providing missing community facilities, working with existing structures. The architectural character is derived from a survey of found yard spaces in Hackney Wick.

Tutor citation Jonathan’s thesis project extends the possibility of a single building contributing to the project of the city. Takero Shimazaki, Paolo Pisano, Jennifer Frewen-Mobsby, Cecile David, Karabo Turner
