Bennetts Associates, which re-enters the AJ100 rankings at 47 after eight years away, has been named AJ100 New Member of the Year

It is also Practice of the Year, selected from the inaugural AJ100 Champions, a cohort of practices celebrated for driving positive change in, or outside, the profession. Founded in 1987 by Rab and Denise Bennetts, Bennetts has 90 permanent employees across offices in London, Edinburgh and Manchester. The practice is an employee-owned trust and became a certified B Corp in 2022.

The practice is best known for its work in the culture, workplace and educational sectors. Recent completions include the transformation of the Old Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh into the Edinburgh Futures Institute and its first project in Greece, the Syggrou Office Complex in Athens. Ongoing work in London includes 2 Copper Square, a mass-timber workplace building in Brent Cross Town for Related Argent, and Timber Square, a hybrid timber redevelopment on Bankside. In the northern Greek city of  Thessaloniki, the practice is re-imagining the campus of Anatolia College.

Two other practices were shortlisted for this year’s New Member award.

Spratley & Partners enters the AJ100 for the first time, ranking =92. Based in Henley-on-Thames and Bristol, the 47-strong practice’s portfolio includes private homes, boutique hotels, business parks, research labs and universities.

The third newcomer is GT3 Architects, which joins at =99 and has 49 staff at offices in Newcastle, Nottingham, and London. The practice has particular expertise in the sports and leisure, masterplanning and workplace sectors.
