This new award is for an exemplary piece of external or internal communication completed in 2023. This may involve the use of video, photography, podcast, writing, social media, website or any other form of communication to achieve a specific purpose.
Two practices have been shortlisted for their new branding. To communicate its change from Glenn Howells Architects, Howells commissioned a new identity and redesigned its website to better communicate the design process, with a greater emphasis on storytelling and video. Visitor traffic to the website has risen by 15 per cent.
Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios launched a website and branding initiative to communicate its new Architect for a Changing World vision statement. This aims to highlight the practice’s commitment to ‘sustainable, democratic and socially responsible design’. Rather than just a change of aesthetic, the rebranding is, says the practice, intended as a springboard to a wider discussion, and is part of a wider programme of events and exhibitions on the Architecture for a Changing World theme.
Foster + Partners is shortlisted for its 14-part video series ‘In the studio with…’ , which showcased the ranges of backgrounds and nationalities at the practice. Designed to inspire a younger generation and attract new talent, the series focused on younger employees working in a variety of roles at the practice, and was published across its social media, intranet and website.
Jestico + Whiles used exhibition and film to communicate its research project Village Stories, which captures life in Greenwich Millennium Village, south-east London. The three-month project interviewed people living and working in the area and culminated in an exhibition and launch event including a short film by Dion Barrett.
Levitt Bernstein collaborated with David Miller Architects to commission The White Flats, a film to celebrate the work of Peter Tábori in Highgate New Town estate in north London. The film explores how the design of the estate (completed 1972-79) fostered a cohesive community through the lived experience of residents.
Stride Treglown’s entry Stand Tall with Rachel Bell is a podcast by the practice’s director of partnerships. Now in its fourth season, the podcast aims to inspire hope, enact change, and provide industry insights. It has received 2,600 downloads across 21 countries.
Morris+Company completes the shortlist for its Emergency Accommodation Campaign. Funded by Commonweal Housing, this aims to establish a qualitative standard for Emergency Accommodation (EA). The campaign’s 2023 Families Emergency Accommodation Guidance (FEAG) report calls for improved standards and offers spatial guidance.
The winners of all the AJ100 awards will be announced in June.
